The general steps of multimedia localization include Source completeness check, Translatable text extraction(do pseudo in this step to make sure all translatable texts are extracted), Translation, Audio Recording, Integration with all localized materials(texts, images, flashes, audios etc.), Testing, Bug Fixing, Bug regression, Final delivery to client.It can be simply generally seen in the workflow table below:

Take Flash for example. The process of Flash localization will be in below workflow:

1. Source Completeness Check

Once we get source files from client, the first thing we should do is checking source files, to see if there is any problem in source files provided. Once found any issues in source files, we will double check with client about this.

2. Translatable Text Extractio

The translatable text in Flash loclaization contain texts in flash, image, actionscript and audio/video. For texts in flash, use Text Catalog Tools, a plug-in of Flash, extract translatable texts into Xliff files automatically; For texts in images, use ocr software to extract texts at first, after this we will manually doublecheck texts between extracted texts and images; For texts in actionscript, use flash decompile tool extract all actionscript content, and mark all translatable texts out; For texts in audio, transript all content with native resource engineers. Use pseudo technology to simulate localized flash, to make sure all translatable texts are fully extracted, this can avoid the translation missing in integration step.

3. Translation

Translate the texts extracted from step 2, Trandos or other translation memory softwares are required, in order to translate faster and more accurately.

4. Audio Recording

Currently we mainly use audio studio vendor to do this step. The audio vendor have their own professional Audio Recording Equipment and native talents to make sure get professional loclaized audio output.

5. Integration

This is our main process and also very important step in flash localization, integrate all localized materials in this step, import localized xliff files, localized images and audio, sync audio and flash frames etc. To get localized flash files consistent with source flash files.

6. Testing loclaized version files

Engineers tested localized files compared with source files frame by frame, report bugs in our defect management system. The defect management system is an important tool of the testing, which can be divided into: reporting, confirmation, fixing, validation and close. Each step requires a detailed process description.

7. Bug fixing

Bug fixing are required after testing. Engineers will fix all bugs include linguistic and fuctional bugs in Flash tool.

8. Bug regression

Once all bug fixed, testing engineers will regress all bugs in defect management system, to close all bugs if bug are fixed, to reopen bugs if they are not fixed.

9. Final delivery

Deliver final files to client. At same time, team will summarize the knowleage, documents to our internal knowledge system, and archive files if client required.
